Painea stramoseasca -Ancestral Bread — Oil painting by Michaela Iatan

Painea stramoseasca -Ancestral Bread

2026 · oil on canvas on wooden frame · 60 x 60

Bread that reiterates the shape of the Roman bread found at Pompei (from the 1st century) .

The division of the bread into 8 parts also recalls the Chi-Ro symbol, which is also part of the old tradition.

The bread is placed on a tray that reproduces ancient Roman motifs from an antique piece.

The red, yellow, blue colors in the background evoke the blood shed for the defense of the ancestral land, the wheat fields and the blue sky.

Gold leaf was also used.

The frame of the painting is made of natural wood.

The painting was exhibited in the exhibition Pâinea, at the Museum of the Romanian Peasant.
